Phil Ivey has really jumped onto the poker scene the last couple of years and is one of the top poker players in the world. Many people say he is the future of the game. Although he is often referred to as the "Tiger Woods" of poker, it is a name he is a little uncomfortable with. "Tiger is the best at his game. I'm not there, yet" says Phil. He is 27 years old but has been playing poker professionally for 10 years.
Phil was introduced to poker by his grandfather, who would cheat, taking cards from the bottom of the deck trying to teach young Phil a lesson about the dangers of gambling.
Instead, poker ignited a passion within Phil. From the time he was a teen, he told everyone that he was going to be a professional gambler. When he was 16, he sat in on a poker game hosted by a friend's father. He beat the game and started looking for opportunities to play more and look where that has gotten him. In June 2005, June, he won his fifth WSOP bracelet in a $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event.
